Here are some tips from me:
1) The first and most important aspect is setting realistic goals. I know you’ve heard it a million times, but dear readers, let’s be real.
2) Set goals with a reason in mind. A ‘why’. Why do you want to achieve this goal? Note it down, and every time you get distracted, just look at the reason why you started in the first place. And the reason can be as simple as because it makes me happy. Not all goals will have a higher purpose, and that’s completely okay.
3) Stop doing things just for their aesthetic. Let me give you an example: all these books, videos, podcasts, and articles about a healthy lifestyle highlight the importance of exercising. Yes, it is indeed very helpful, but people do it because it’s considered “aesthetic.” I’m not generalizing this idea to everyone, but there are people who have that mentality; they join gyms to post stories on social media.
When you do things just for the aesthetic of them, you’re essentially sucking out the joy that comes with doing that thing because that’s not your aim or focus.
5) Mould your goals according to your preferences; don’t just copy goals from the internet; your goals have to match your preferences and lifestyle. For example, exercising might look like going to a gym for some, but for you, it might look like yoga. Both of these activities are forms of exercising, but they’re different. Maybe for your age bracket, yoga might be a better option, or gym might be it. Or simply that you enjoy doing yoga or going to the gym more. Your goals should be molded to fit your lifestyle and preferences. Also, try to fit your goals into your lifestyle. For some people, exercising in the morning might not be possible, so they can try to do it in the evening or at night. Personalize your goals; they’re ‘yours’
6) Don’t give up. I cannot stress this enough, but please don’t be disheartened by any setbacks or distractions; you will have them, and when you do, I want you to not hate yourself and get back again. Stop being a perfectionist, and please don’t have the ‘I missed it today, now I’ll try it again next year’ mentality. You’ve got to be consistent towards your goals, and perfection is a myth; you cannot follow your goal all days of the year. Let’s be realistic here.
7) Try to keep track of your progress, but don’t be obsessive about it. Maybe you can record your journey, keep a journal, or have a digital app to monitor it, but also don’t be obsessive; remember your purpose; don’t just do it for the sake of doing it.
